If I open an checking account can my wife have access without it being a joint account - were she can write checks or use debit card

In order for your wife to have a debit card and check signing authority, she would have to be a joint signer on the account. To have her added onto your account, we invite you both to stop into a nearby Store to sign the necessary documents. Check out our locations by clicking here: https://go.td.com/1nq31dc. Once she's added, she can be issued her own debit card and will have full signing authority on the account.
