I'm going to be travelling overseas for a few weeks from the end of 1 month to the middle of another. Could I set up a basic checking account the month I leave, keep my minimum $100 balance the entire trip, and then come home and cancel my account and get all my money out, without being charged?

Thanks for considering TD for your banking needs, Hannah. We'd be happy to help.
First, we recommend taking a look at the accounts we have to offer. You are able to take a look at checking accounts here: https://go.td.com/2eQORxu and savings accounts here: https://go.td.com/2dIcnAw.
If you're having trouble choosing an account, you are able to use Account Selector found here: https://go.td.com/2sx4N2E.
Once you're ready to open an account, you are able to do so online by selecting "Open Account," by calling us 24/7 at 888-751-9000 or by visiting any TD Store. To take a look at Store locations and their hours please visit http://go.td.com/1f9DSJR.
Please know regardless of the method you choose, you will need a Social Security Number and a valid photo I.D. (Driver's License, Passport, Military I.D. etc.).
Once you have your TD debit card, please know that you're able to use it anywhere Visa is accepted worldwide. Please reach out to us using the contact methods mentioned above to place a travel notification after your account is opened.
In addition to this, you're able to close your account at any time and there is no fee to do so. Keep in mind that if your account type has a balance requirement, you are expected to maintain this requirement prior to closing your account.
We hope this clears things up, Hannah. Thanks for choosing TD.
