I just opened a checking account online and need to make the initial deposit. Can I ask a friend in US to make a small deposit into my account to activate the account?

Great to see you on TD Helps with us, Hui and thank you for choosing TD for your new account!
Since we see that you're writing to us from Toronto, it sounds like you recently opened a cross-border account with us. We're happy to let you know that we have several convenient deposit options for our cross-border Customers and can certainly tell you more about them here!
First, kindly note that TD Bank does not recommend providing your account number to anyone not listed on your account as a signer. With that being said, if you prefer to have another individual make the deposit on your behalf at one of our Stores in the States, they are able to do so. A listing of our Store locations can be found here: http://bit.ly/TDStores.
As another option, if you have an existing account with TD Canada Trust, you're more than welcome to initiate a free Wire Transfer from your TD Canada Trust account to your new TD Bank U.S. account as your initial deposit. If you'd like to take advantage of this, you're welcome to call our Cross Border Banking Team at 877-700-2913, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for assistance with the transfer.
Or, you're welcome to mail a deposit to us. A deposit can be mailed to:
TD Bank, N.A., ME2-001-033, P.O. Box Number 1190, Lewiston, ME 04243
Or, if you'd like to send the deposit via FedEx or UPS, please use this address:
TD Bank, N.A., Bank by Mail, 140 Mill Street, Lewiston, ME 04243
Checks should be endorsed (and restricted for deposit only), and cash should not be sent through the mail. Please include your account number separately or on the back of the check for efficient service.
Thanks again for choosing TD, Hui! Hope this helps and have a great one.
Kristen P, Mount Laurel
