Thanks for making a stop at TD Helps with your question, Lauren! We'll be glad to chat with you about our official checks.
Official Checks are negotiable instruments of guaranteed funds purchased from a national bank. Typically, these can be cashed anywhere and also deposited with other banks. Although we're unable to tell you if official checks can be used in lieu of certified checks in every situation, these types of checks are generally accepted for payment. We would advise you to connect with your Payee to ensure that they take this form of payment.
As long as you're a TD Bank Customer, you may purchase an official check in any amount with cash, or via withdrawal from your account. This can be completed at any of our Stores in either the lobby or drive-thru. Please see http://bit.ly/TDStores to find your closest TD Bank Store.
Typically, an Official Check is made payable to your payee, and please keep in mind that official checks cannot be made payable to "Cash." We'd recommend reviewing your payee's requirements prior to visiting the Store to ensure you're aware of the correct name that should be written on the check.
In addition, depending on the type of account you have, fees may apply for an official check purchase. Feel free to take a look at http://bit.ly/1cTejgt to see more.
Hope this answers your question, Lauren! Great having you and enjoy your weekend.
