Good afternoon Anita,
Great to have you with us today and we'd be happy to clarify this a bit for you.
Because there are several payment methods that can be used nowadays, the ability to stop a payment can depend on which method was used for the transaction.
If the payment is already pending on your TD Bank account (in other words, you can see it listed on your account and the amount has been deducted from your balance) we may be able to place a Stop Payment on it if it is a direct debit from your account. This would be a type of transaction using the routing and account numbers. Kindly note that on some accounts, a fee may be assessed for a Stop Payment and you can take a look at our Fee Schedule on this page: http://bit.ly/1cTejgt.
On the other hand, if the transaction is still pending and your debit card was used for the item instead, generally speaking we are not able to stop these types of transactions. If it happens to be from a merchant such as a car rental company or hotel and it is for the purpose of a security hold while you use their property, these can sometimes be released with the permission of the company directly. If there is an issue with a pending debit card transaction, you may be able to file a claim once the item has posted, to try to recover your funds.
Because we're not able to review the pending item for you in better detail from here, we recommend that you get in touch with one of our Specialists directly. You can reach us 24/7 at 888-751-9000 or at any TD Bank Store listed here: http://bit.ly/TDStores so we can go over this with you and provide any options you have.
We hope this helps, Anita and feel free to reply or call us with your questions.
Best of luck with this and we hope you enjoy your Sunday!
