I have not yet made an account but I am looking into making one however I am transgender and my name has not been changed through the state of New Jersey, do I need to put my legal name on my account or can I use my preferred name?

Thanks for reaching out to us, Sam!
We're so glad to hear that you're interested in opening your new account with us!
Generally speaking, we would need to have your legal name on your account for tax reporting purposes and because personal information may be verified against IRS records.
Once you've completed your legal name change, it’s a quick fix! Just stop in with your documentation and we'll update the account and have you sign a new signature card.
In the meantime, we encourage you to check out all that we're currently offering in checking and savings accounts. We even have a great Account Selector tool that takes into consideration how you intend to use the account to find the right fit for you. You can find that by clicking here: https://go.td.com/2sx4N2E. Once you find the perfect account, you may be able to open it entirely online as long as you have a U.S. Social Security Number.
We would also be happy to open the account for you over the phone or in any of our Stores. Just give us a call 24/7 at 888-751-9000 or stop in to visit us. To find a TD Bank Store near you, please click here: https://go.td.com/1nq31dc. We're always here to answer any question you may have and help you get into your new account.
If you have any additional questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us here, by phone, or by visiting us. We hope you're having a great day, Sam, and Happy Thanksgiving!
