Thank you for bringing your question to TD Help today, Ann. We are happy to provide the information you requested.
When traveling, your granddaughter can make ATM withdrawals from any machine that displays the VISA or PLUS logo. We encourage her to check out our current fee schedule, http://bit.ly/1cTejgt, as it outlines any applicable fees that may come into play when using TD ATM debit card out of the country. The international currency conversion rate varies by country. In all foreign countries, the exchange rates at the ATM are always more current than the commercial rates because the transaction is a real time authorization.
Her Visa Debit Card is also convenient, secure and rewarding- so she can shop and bank with confidence. She can use her debit card at millions of locations that accept Visa across the globe. For few a tips to manage her money when traveling please check out: http://bit.ly/1fO8wKy, she may also want to review our international travel tips frequently asked questions by clicking here: http://bit.ly/1ltwDDc.
To avoid any interruptions to her TD Debit Card usage, we recommend placing Travel Notifications on her checking account. If she has not already done so, she can by calling our Customer Service Line at 888-751-9000. If she is setup for online banking, another option would be to send a secure message using www.tdbank.com and request the Travel Notifications be added to her account. To send a secure message she must first log on to her TD Bank online profile. On the left hand side, she should see and option to "Send a secure message" located in the “Message Center”. If she is not set up for Online Banking, please visit here: http://bit.ly/1lU2qfY. Keep in mind that she will need her account number, Social Security number and ATM/debit card handy to complete the enrollment process.
By placing a travel notification, this will help us be aware if we see foreign transactions on her account. Also, please be informed that for her protection we will continue to monitor her card activity even when a notification is set. We also recommend carrying more than one method of payment while traveling, just in case she encounters any acceptance issues. For more travel tips while overseas, please visit http://bit.ly/1gDrDYu.
If she has any questions while she is traveling internationally, she can reach us at (856)-751-9000. Additionally, she can call collect from a landline at (215)-569-0518.
We hope this provides some help. Let us know if you have any other questions
