Hello Peter, thanks for connecting with us today. It's great that you came to TD Helps with your concerns.
You're right – we did recently update our Bank-by-Phone system to better streamline your account access. With the new system, you now have the option to use your account number as well as your TD Bank VISA Debit Card number. It's important for us to meet your Mobile Banking needs while you're on the go.
Upon first use, the new and improved Bank-by-Phone system will prompt you to enter either your account number or your debit card Number, whichever you have available. Then, it will ask to verify the last 4 digits of your Social Security Number in order to setup a Phone Code for you. Since you mentioned that you and your wife are Canadian, you may not have a US Social Security Number on file with us. If this is the case, we encourage you to reach out to a live Cross-Border Banking Specialist 24/7 at 877-700-2913. Here, a dedicated Specialist can help you create your unique 4 digit Phone Code to use for future access through the IVR system. This Phone Code will replace your old Bank-by-Phone PIN and is independent of the PIN# associated with your VISA Debit Card.
Some tips to remember when choosing your new Phone Code:
- Create something unique that will be hard for others to guess
-Choose numbers that you can remember, but do not easily relate back to you (i.e. birthdates, addresses, phone numbers, etc.)
- You should not continue to use the last 4 digits of your SSN
- We recommend *not* using the same code as your Debit Card PIN Number to prevent unauthorized access

Thanks again for reaching out to us Peter, we hope this helps. Have a great day!
