I was recommended to open an account at TD Bank by a friend. At first I was going to open an account with Chase, however the minimum amount of money needed to be maintained for waiving the monthly fee deterred me away from doing so. I'm a high school student, however I am 19. And I am planning to take a year to work and travel a bit, would like to have my first bank account before doing so. I did my research and am aware that I need my Social Security Number and another ID, most likely passport, to open an account. Now, I'm wondering if it is possible to also have a checking and savings account? Would I have to maintain a different minimum balance for both to waive the fees? When a fee is waive does it mean I don't have to pay any monthly fees or a low monthly fee? If I deposit money will it be taxed? Will I have to pay an amount to withdraw my money? Is there a way for me to be alerted so I do not spend below the minimum balance for waiving the fee? Sorry for the excessive amount of questions, thank you for your time.
