I opened an account via telephone and received a welcome letter and form "New Personal Account" in the mail to sign and mail back along with a request for a check or money order for my initial opening deposit.
I am not located anywhere near a TD Bank store.
Can I make to opening deposit online?
Otherwise, if not, how/who to I address the check to?

Good afternoon, Kvan, and welcome to the TD Family!
This is a great question, and we'll be more than happy to help.
At this time, if you do not wish to mail a check for you initial deposit, you have the option of performing a transfer from another financial institution to your TD Bank account right from your Online Banking!
To do so, you'll first want to log into your Online Banking, and you can click here: https://go.td.com/1eaISlq to access the log in page directly. If you have not yet enrolled, don’t worry, this can be done here: https://go.td.com/1lU2qfY. To complete the enrollment process, you will need your account number, debit card number, your Social Security Number, and a valid email address. If you do not have any of this information, you're welcome to contact a Banking Specialist at 1-888-751-9000, 24/7, who will be happy to assist you with enrolling.
Once you're able to access your account(s), click on the 'Transfers' tab towards the top of your screen. Next, towards the left hand side of your screen, you should see a box that labeled 'Help & Related Tools'. From here, click on 'Transfer to or from your external accounts', which will bring you to the External Transfer screen. If you haven't yet used this service, you'll first need to add your account with your other financial institute. To do so, simply click on the 'Add a New Account' link, and then follow the steps to add in all the information for your external account. Once this has been completed, simply select the amount you wish to transfer, the account you wish to transfer from and to, as well as the date you wish for this transfer to be completed.
In addition to performing this transfer through your TD Bank Online Banking, we'd also like to recommend contacting another financial institution you may have an account with to determine if they are able to assist you with a transfer to your TD Bank account.
If you have downloaded the TD Bank Mobile App, you would also have the option of performing a Mobile Deposit from your smartphone. If you haven't downloaded the TD Bank Mobile App, and would like to learn more, you're welcome to click here: https://go.td.com/1hOPk1H. Once you have successfully logged into your mobile app, in order to make a mobile deposit, click on the button that reads 'Deposit', symbolized by a camera. From here, select the account you wish to make your deposit into, followed by the amount of your check. Snap a picture of the front and back, and then select 'Continue'. You will then be asked to confirm your deposit, and after doing so, will be provided with a confirmation number.
As you will be endorsing a check to deposit into your account, you will simply need to have the check made payable to yourself, or even another signer that you may have on your account. The same information would apply in the event that you do decide to write a check for your initial deposit to include with your Welcome Letter.
For your convenience, we have provided some important tips below to take into consideration when sending a deposit by mail:
- Cash should not be sent through the mail
- Payee of the check and name on deposit ticket should be the same
- Checks should be endorsed (and restricted for deposit only)
- Multiple checks should be listed and a total of the deposit listed
- Enclose the deposit ticket, not the carbon copy
- If using a blank deposit ticket, please write account number clearly
- Do not staple transactions
If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to contact us directly, and we'll be more than happy to help. Banking Specialists are available at the number above, and you're also welcome to contact your local TD Store location for further assistance. We sincerely hope this helps, Kvan. Have a great weekend!
