I made and later canceled an online purchase using a TD visa gift card... How long does TD hold payment authorization charges for canceled orders? I contacted the merchant and they said that was the problem, since their records indicate I wasn't charged for the purchase.

Thanks for joining us here on TD Helps, Emma. We understand your concern and would be glad to discuss this with you. In general, if a merchant authorizes your card and you later cancel the transaction, this can create a temporary hold of those funds on your account. This should expire and allow you to access the funds again, which usually take about 3 business days for your gift card. As the hold time can vary depending on the merchant, we recommend giving us a call 24/7 at 888-294-2249, and a Specialist can confirm in better detail how long this process may take for you. Also, if you prefer to wait, to confirm that the funds have been returned to your account you can call our Gift Card Customer Service 24/7 at the number just mentioned to retrieve your gift card balance and check the recent transactions. If you've registered your card online, you can also log in at http://bit.ly/1dmtzim to make sure the authorization has expired. If you haven't yet registered your card, feel free to follow the above link, and enter the first six digits of your gift card to begin the process. Please note that your initial password will be the three-digit security code on the signature panel on the back of your card. Hope this information provides some help, Emma! Best of luck and have a great afternoon.
