I am a non resident non US citizen coming to the US as a tourist. I would like to know if I am able to open a checking account at TD Bank and its requirements. I am a citizen of Brazil and Germany.
The main reason why I would like to open an account is because I receive monthly US checks by mail. I would like to know if, once the account is opened, I can use the TD Bank app to deposit these checks to my checking account.
I would like to know how long does the opening process takes and how many visits to the bank it involves.

Good afternoon, Jan, and thanks for bringing your questions to TD Helps today!
We're so happy to hear that you're interested in joining the TD family, and we'll be more than happy to help.
Before we begin, we'd like to take a moment to go over all the accounts that we currently offer. If you believe that a Checking account may best fit your needs, feel free to use the link here: https://go.td.com/2eQORxu for more information. If you think a Savings account may be better, you're welcome to use this link: https://go.td.com/2bSlkVn. If you're having any trouble deciding, we have a Selector Tool here: https://go.td.com/2sx4N2E, which can make a personalized recommendation for you, based on your needs.
Once you've decided on the account type you wish to open, as a non U.S. Resident, we ask that you visit a TD Store location to speak with a Customer Service Representative, during lobby hours. During your visit, please be sure to have at least two forms of ID, one of which must be a valid Non-US Passport or Visa with photo, and the second form of valid ID you may select from the list below:
- Employment ID with Photo and Signature
- State Issued ID or Driver's License with Signature
- Foreign Driver's License with Photo
- US Employment Authorization card with Photo, Signature and Expiration Date
- College ID with Photo
- Alien Registration Card with Photo
- Permanent Resident Card with Photo
Your account will be opened during your first visit, and no additional visits will be needed as long as all the required information is accessible during your first visit. If you would like, you're welcome to contact the Store of your choosing directly to verify what information you may or may not need. Feel free to use this link: http://go.td.com/1f9DSJR to find your nearest TD Store location.
Once your account has been opened, and you have downloaded the TD Bank Mobile Banking App, you'll have immediate access to make Mobile Deposits! To learn more about our TD Bank Mobile App, click here: https://go.td.com/1hOPk1H.
If you have any questions at all before your visit, you're welcome to, of course, contact the Store location of your choosing, or you may also connect with a Banking Specialist, 24/7, at 1-888-751-9000. As you may need to connect with us internationally, you can also call collect, with operator assistance, by asking the operator to dial (215)-569-0518.
We sincerely hope this helps, Jan! Enjoy the rest of your day!
