Hi - I would like to set up a direct debit agreement through GoCardless.com to pay for a transaction in the UK. The website is asking me for my account number and SORT code. Is it possible to set up this type of direct debit to a UK institution from my US TD Bank account?

Please understand, ACH Payments are cleared through the Automated Clearing House using your account number and routing number. These types of payments cannot be sent from outside of the US and it is recommended to use the wiring instructions provided below.
To send funds to the U.K. from your account here in the U.S., it would be necessary to send the funds via international wire transfer. To do so, you can stop in at any TD Bank Store. For TD Stores near you, please visit http://bit.ly/TDStores.
When you visit, you'll need the following information about the financial institution to which you are sending the funds:
-The full name, address, including city, state/province, country and account number of the person/business (for Euro Zone countries - IBAN - International Banking Account Number) you are sending money to
-The full name and address, including city, state/province and country, as well as a valid SWIFT/BIC of the financial institution receiving the funds
-The amount and currency of the transfer

We would also recommend checking with the other financial institution to obtain information regarding any fees for their services. Since we notice that your current location is in the U.K., we'd like to provide a few possibilities for sending the funds from there. First, if your TD Bank account is a joint account, any owner may visit us at a Store to initiate a wire, if one of you is currently located in the U.S. As another option, you may wish to deposit a check from your TD Bank account to a local account you have in the U.K. Or, feel free to withdraw funds either via ATM or by Visa Cash Advance using your TD Bank Visa Debit card. After using any of these options, if the funds need to be provided to another party you may initiate a wire or seek alternative options from your bank there.
If you may opt to withdraw funds using either an ATM or a cash advance, please note that daily limits on our Visa debit cards are $750.00 for ATM withdrawals, and $5,000.00 for cash advances. For additional info, please take a look here: http://bit.ly/1kb17UQ on pages 43-44.
If you are expecting to withdraw more than what is permitted on your daily limit, we can offer a couple of options to request an increase. Please note, in order to have your debit card limit increased you must have a deposit account older than 90 days that is in Normal status and have a sufficient balance to cover the requested amount.
To increase one of the limits on your Visa debit card, you can send us a written request via fax or Secure Message. You can send the fax to our Fulfillment Team at 856-533-1138, or please log in to your TD Bank Online account at http://bit.ly/1eaISlq and use the Send a Message link after clicking the Customer Service tab. With either method, please include the following information:
• Subject: Limit Increase
• Account Number
• Debit/ATM Card Number
• Your Name
• Contact Telephone Number
• A Statement indicating to 'Please increase my total daily Visa (or POS or ATM) limit to $X for the day.'
• Your Signature (for the fax option only)
Please note, limit increases are temporary and the transaction must be completed the same day that the limit increase is granted. If you are interested in a permanent limit increase or decrease, you must visit your local TD Bank Store to make the request.
