I went to hardware store today and paid with my td bank debit card. the clerk demanded to see my state id and then wrote down my state id number. He refused to tell me why and only said this is store policy. Is this the policy when I use my debit card.

Good morning, William and thank you for sending your inquiry to us on TD Helps.
When making a purchase with your TD Visa debit card, depending on the State and the retail store, you may be required to show your valid photo ID to prove that you're the card holder. If you like to determine as why the cashier has written down your State ID number, we recommend speaking with the retail store manager directly.
If you have any additional questions for us, please feel free to reach out to our Banking Specialists 24/7 at 888-751-9000. You may also stop by your local TD Bank Store location for assistance. To find out the nearest TD Store near you, please visit, http://bit.ly/TDStores.
Thanks again for dropping by, William. Have a great one!
