Hi TD...When a merchant makes a mistake and charges a persons account incorrectly...what happens once I call in and report this error? Specifically, will the incorrect charge remain on my account while the bank is trying to figure the validity of the charge? OR do they release the money back to the customers account while the dispute/ error is pending? 2nd question: What determines a charge being called "authorized" ?? example: If I DO NOT authorize a charge but the merchant goes in and process' a charge...even though "I" did not authorize it...how is that labeled an authorized charge? Who would be the party to make that charge authorized? Thank you..Have a nice day!

Thanks for writing in, Mike. We'll be glad to provide you with more information on the dispute process.
Once a debit card dispute is filed, TD Bank will review the claims within 3 business days and will respond by letter immediately following the review. Please note that some claims are more complex than others and might require additional time and information to complete the review.
If within approximately 3 business days resolution is unable to be determined then a provisional credit may be issued to your account while the investigation continues.
Additionally, a charge is considered authorized when a merchant has obtained an authorization from the bank by swiping the card through its card terminal. In the case of an online or over the phone payment, the merchant will need to verify the card number, expiration date and billing information in order to obtain authorization. If there was a charge that you did not complete, we ask that you contact us immediately to dispute the transaction.
If you have any further questions, we ask that you contact us 24/7 at 888-751-9000 or visit a nearby TD location. For a listing of our Stores and their hours please view: http://bit.ly/TDStores.
We hope this is helpful, Mike and have a nice weekend.
