We are traveling to Italy for several weeks and would like to assure that we don't have any issues using our debit cards. I also don't want to incur unnecessary charges. Can you outline what I can expect as well as the best way to avoid few.

Hi Rosemarie, thanks for joining us on TD Helps.
Prior to leaving for your trip, we ask that you place a travel notification on your account to avoid any interruptions with your debit card. To do so, please contact our Banking Specialists 24/7 at 888-751-9000 to have a travel notification placed on your account(s).
You may also send a Secure Message through Online Banking to add the notification, if you'd prefer. If you are not enrolled in Online Banking, please click here: http://bit.ly/1lU2qfY. You will need your account number, debit card number, Social Security number, and e-mail address. Once you are enrolled, please sign into your account and click on the Customer Service tab and then select Send a Message. If you choose this option, please include the exact travel dates, destinations and if there will be any connecting flight if applicable. If you need help enrolling, please call us at the number listed above for further assistance. After account verification, our Specialists would be happy to help.
If you are unable to call or send an email, you can always visit your local TD Bank and have a Customer Service Representative place the travel notes for you. Please visit: http://bit.ly/TDStores to find a TD Bank near you.
Additionally, we are happy to say that TD Bank does not charge any kind of foreign transaction fees when using your debit card outside of the United States. In fact, you can use your TD debit card anywhere that Visa is accepted worldwide, as long as the ATM machine you're using has the Visa or Plus logo. Please note that non-TD ATM fees still may apply. For more information on the Fee Schedule, please take a look here: http://bit.ly/1cTejgt.
We also recommend carrying more than one method of payment while traveling, just in case you encounter any acceptance issues. For more travel tips, please visit http://bit.ly/1gDrDYu.
If you need to contact us while you're away, you may contact us by sending us a Secure Message, as described above, or call us from outside the United States via phone at 1-856-751-9000, or collect with operator assistance from a land line phone by asking the operator to dial 1-215-569-0518.
We hope this helps and enjoy your trip!
