Thanks for joining us here at TD Helps Gavin. We'd be glad to help.
We'd like to first start off by informing you that anyone under the age of 18 is considered to be a minor. With that being said, being that the teen is 17 years of age, to open an account we do ask that an adult accompanies the teen by visiting our nearby TD Bank Stores to open a joint Checking account. To find a nearby TD Bank location, please check out: http://bit.ly/TDStores.
Here at TD Bank, we offer a wide array of accounts and we invite you to visit the below links for more information prior to your visit. We invite you to take a look at what accounts we currently offer by clicking here: http://bit.ly/Wczmq0 for a list of checking accounts and here: http://bit.ly/1pJT9I9 for a list of our savings accounts. For a personalized recommendation for a checking account click here: http://bit.ly/1vW1xnUor if you prefer, we also have a Savings Selector Tool: http://bit.ly/1vW1DvM which can help you choose the best savings account for your needs.
If your teen is a full-time student, a Student Checking account may be best for them. To learn more about our Student Checking account, which includes no monthly maintenance fee or minimum daily balance for students under the age of 24, please visit http://bit.ly/S8Vejp. Additionally, the monthly maintenance fee is waived on a TD Simple Savings account when it is linked to a TD Student Checking account.
Once a decision has been made on which account is best, please visit us during lobby hours to open the joint account. When visiting, we ask that the parent or guardian provide a valid form of identity such as a State License, State ID or Passport. The minor would also need to provide identification; acceptable forms of identification for minors include a School ID (preferably with a picture), Passport, US Birth Certificate or Social Security card.
Here at TD Bank, we can instantly issue Visa debit cards in our stores from Maine to Florida, which will immediately be active for purchases. Being that the teen is a minor, if a joint account was opened, a Visa debit card can be issued as long as a verbal consent of an adult was given.
You may also feel free to call us directly at (888) 751-9000 with any questions you may have. Our Banking Specialists are available 24/7 and would be happy to help you with anything you may need.
We hope this helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you have any other questions.
