We want to transfer some UK Pounds into our TD account in the US and are trying to figure out what the most
effective way to do this is.

Welcome to TD Helps, Markus. It's our pleasure to point you in the right direction today.
If you have sent an international wire to TD Bank here in the States, you may wish to inquire at your bank if they use the services of correspondent and/or intermediary banks during the wire transfer process. If other banks are involved in the wire, they may charge a fee for their services and deduct these from the wire transfer amount that arrives in your recipient's account.
Additionally, we invite you to view our current Fee Schedule at http://bit.ly/1cTejgt for information about any fees which may be assessed by TD Bank for a wire transfer to an account here. These would automatically be deducted from the receiver's account by TD Bank if applicable, on the same date that the wire is credited.
We encourage you to review the wires you're sending with your financial institution, to determine if any of these fees can be absorbed on your end. They're also able to trace the wire for full information regarding the intermediary banks used and their fees that were charged along the way.
If you have any questions, we'll be glad to assist you! You're welcome to speak with one of our Banking Specialists 24/7 at 888-751-9000. If you're in the UK at this time, please contact us from outside the United States via phone at 1-856-751-9000, or collect with operator assistance from a land line phone by asking the operator to dial 1-215-569-0518.
We hope this helps, Markus. Have a nice day.

Thanks for the information so far. I understand the fee structure but I wanted to know what exchange rate is used if the funds are sent in GBP. Thanks, Markus.

Welcome back, Markus.
The exchange rate used is determined by the intermediary bank upon the receipt of the transfer. We recommend contacting the sending institution to determine who their intermediary banks are.
If you are sending funds from TD, please reach out to us directly 24/7 by dialing 888-751-9000 or by visiting any TD Store. To take a look at TD Stores near you please visit http://bit.ly/TDStores.
