We understand your concern, Meghan, and we'd be glad to clarify how pending transactions work.
When a transaction is authorized using your debit card, the transaction will be visible under your pending activity. The length of time the item will remain pending is determined by the transaction type. Any transaction made using your PIN will debit from your account and typically applies the following business day.
Visa transactions made with your debit card work a little differently. These items when authorized will still deduct from your account balance immediately however they may take 3-5 business days to apply to your statement. This delay is caused by the length of time the merchant takes to notify Visa they will or will not be collecting on the pending funds. If the business is not collecting the funds pending, the authorization will expire and the funds will return to your account balance.
As you've mentioned that the transaction pending was not authorized, we recommend submitting a dispute for the item if it applies to your statement. You are able to submit a debit card dispute by calling us 24/7 at 888-751-9000 or by visiting any TD Store. To take a look at Store locations and their hours please visit http://go.td.com/1f9DSJR.
We hope this clears things up, Meghan. Have a good day.
