I am currently 17 and would like to open a TD Student Checking (along with the free Simple Savings) account. I know, because I am a minor, that I will need to have a parent be a co-owner and co-sign on the account, but when I turn 18 will I be able to remove their name from the account and have it just be mine? Or will I need to make a new account under only my name? Thanks!

Thanks for letting us assist you on TD Helps, Joe! We'll be glad to provide you with some options for your account.
Please note that to protect the privacy and confidentiality of your account, if you would like to remove a signer's name from your account, the account should be closed and a new one opened.
Please keep in mind that any one owner of an account can request it to be closed. If you're listed as joint owner of the account and are 18 years of age or more, you'll be able to close the account.
If you'd like to close your current account and it has a remaining balance, we'd recommend visiting any TD Bank Store nearby to withdraw the funds and request that the account be closed. Please visit http://bit.ly/TDStores to find a convenient location. At that time, you'll be more than welcome to establish a new account in your name only. Please keep in mind that you must be at least 18 years of age to establish an account without an adult as a co-signer. We'd also like to let you know that you also have the option to open a new account online. To do so, please follow: www.tdbank.com.
If the balance in your account is already zero, or you have a remaining account that funds can be transferred to, you may also call us 24/7 by dialing 888-751-9000 and after your account has successfully been closed you may request to open an account over the phone! Or, you're welcome to send a Secure Message via your Online Banking account by logging it at http://bit.ly/1eaISlq and clicking the Customer Service tab. You'll find a link "Send a Message" there, where you can enter your request to close your account. Please be sure to specify the account number you wish to close if you choose this method.
Thanks again for joining us, Joe. We hope this helps and take care!
