I'm a fairly new TD customer and am wondering when TD will update the mobile banking app to include a variety of new features. Since I have been a customer, there has only been one update to the app, version 3.4 which brought password changing into the app, great addition!
A few things I'm interested in:
Apple has now had Touch ID on iPhones for more than 2 years, releasing it with the 5S model. Many iPhone users, including myself, are now on their second phone with TouchID from a standard 2 year phone contract. TouchID has allowed for a simplified method of securely accessing apps, over-riding the standard password just like how TouchID logs users into the phone. Many financial institutions I use in addition to TD such as Bank of America, Charles Schwab and E*Trade allow for TouchID to act as a password to log-in to the app. When will TD add this functionality to the mobile banking app? There are also multiple requests for this in the Reviews section in the Apple App Store, so I'm not alone. I do give you props for having Apple Pay enabled, definitely a step in the right direction!
User Interface. The UI of the TD app looks as if it was made pre iOS 7 and has just been stretched to fit the newest iPhone screens as the 5 and 6 introduced larger screens than the previous model. Modern multi-touch features are also important and currently lacking. On many apps like Safari, the user can swipe from the left edge of the screen to the right and go back, this feature is lacking in the TD app which as a multitude of menus and layers to each menu. Multitouch features like this would greatly simplify the user experience.
That said, the core features of the app are pretty good. Many of the features users want from a bank are present including but not exclusive to mobile deposits, ATM finder, links to call customer support...etc. Adding modern iOS design and support for modern smartphone features such as TouchID will only make the app better. These are also great marketing points for my demographic, the tech savvy 20-30 somethings which are now in the workforce and in need of a bank account.
I get that some of this may have to do with the cost associated with designing and coding a robust, secure mobile application, but if the financial institutions I listed above can leverage modern app design and the most recent features of the end user's devices, TD can as well.
