So I have a TD Ameritrade margin account and from what I read on TD Ameritrade's website you can borrow up to 50% of the value of your cash that you have in your account.
For example, I have about $2000 in cash in my account, so you would think my buying power would be $4000, but instead the buying power number is over $6600.
Why is this? I tried to find the answer online and I even called TD Ameritrade on the phone but they were unsure.

Thanks for reaching out to us on TD Helps, Drew. We'd be sure to point you in the right direction.
Though TD Ameritrade and TD Bank operate under the same TD Shield, we are separate institutions. We recommend speaking to them directly in regards to your inquiry.
You are able to contact TD Ameritrade directly at 800-400-3603. Feel free to visit the TD Ameritrade web site by visiting: http://bit.ly/2d8Cfok.
We hope this helps, Drew and have a good day.
