Welcome to TD Helps, Diane!
We’re glad to assist you with your inquiry regarding your son’s travel.
We recommend placing a Travel Notification in your son’s checking account before he leaves for Russia. You can do so, by calling our Customer Service Line at 1- (888) 751-9000 or visiting a local TD Bank Store. If he is a joint signer on the account and he is setup for online banking, another option would be to have him send a secured message using www.tdbank.com and request the Travel Notifications be added to your account. To send a secured message you must first log on to your TD Bank online profile. On the left hand side, you should see and option to "Send a secure message" located in the “Message Center”.
To get the latest exchange rates, please call TD International Services at 888-BNG-INTL (888-264-4685). You can also call a TD Bank Store to verify if they have Rubles available if not they can place an order which will arrive in 1-2 business days. Please take a look at http://bit.ly/1iobXVA for TD Stores near you.
Cards bearing the Visa logo are accepted at locations all over the world. However, we recommend carrying more than one method of payment while traveling, just in case he encounters any acceptance issues.
When making an ATM withdrawal from an international location, please make sure that the ATM machine displays either the VISA or PLUS logo. International PLUS locations can be located on the internet at www.Visa.com. The TD Bank Debit Card may also be used to obtain a VISA Cash Advance if a compatible ATM is not available. Please note, non-TD ATM fees still may apply. Many ATMs outside the United States limit withdrawals to checking accounts only, TD Bank Online can be used to transfer money from your savings account to your checking account should more funds be needed.
We hope this helps and please be sure to let us know if you have any further questions.
