I have received a check issued by the State of NJ Department of Pensions and Benefits and need to open a checking account to deposit these funds. Will there be a hold on this check? If so, how soon will the funds be available?

We'll be sure to provide information regarding a new account deposit.
Please note that while most checks deposited before 8:00 pm are available the next banking day, there are times when they may be held up to 7 business days. For example, if you are a new account holder and your account has not been open for 30 consecutive days, check deposits can be held for up to 7 business days for verification purposes.
There are other instances in which check deposits may be held for extra time. For more information on funds availability and deposits that may be applied for additional verification, please see our Personal Deposit Account Agreement at https://go.td.com/2nf0JAI. On pages 40-44, you can find our Funds Availability Policy along with information about when you'll have access to deposits.
If you would like additional information regarding your check, we encourage you calling our 24/7 Customer Service line at 888-751-9000.
You may also inquire about your deposit during lobby hours at your nearest TD Store. Our locations near you can be found here: http://go.td.com/1f9DSJR.
We look forward to you being a part of the TD Family, Nancy!
