While TD Bank does not offer EMV (Europay MasterCard and VISA) chip debit cards at this time, we will continue to assess our customers' needs. We are committed to providing financial solutions that meet those needs as they arise.
We appreciate your attention to your account security. TD Bank offers customers multiple layers of security protection against fraud, and has tools in place to monitor for suspicious activity. We monitor cards for unusual activity 24 hours a day/seven days a week and will reach out to you if fraud is suspected. As you've mentioned that you may be traveling abroad, please note that approximately 97% of international merchants at this time will accept magstripe-only cards. However, it’s good to have an alternate form of payment (i.e. cash) if your magstripe-only card is not accepted.
We want to make sure your trip is as fun and as stress-free as it can be, and we'll be able to help answer any questions you may have.
We'd like to share with you that cards bearing the Visa logo are accepted at locations all over the world. However, please be sure to carry more than one method of payment while traveling, just in case you encounter any acceptance issues.

We do recommend placing a Travel Notification on your Checking and/or Savings account before you leave. To place a Travel Notification, you can call our Customer Service Line 24/7 at 888-751-9000 or by visiting your local TD Bank Store. For a listing of TD Bank Stores and hours check http://bit.ly/TDStores. If you are setup for Online Banking, another option would be to send a secure message using www.tdbank.com and request the Travel Notifications be added to your account. To send a secure message you must first log in to your TD Bank online profile. You can do so by clicking here: http://bit.ly/1eaISlq. On the left hand side, you should see an option to "Send a secure message" located in the “Message Center.” Please include your travel destination(s) and travel dates. If you are not enrolled for Online Banking, you can do so for free here: http://bit.ly/1lU2qfY. You will need your Social Security number, TD Bank ATM/Visa Debit card, your account number, and your email address. Once you have successfully enrolled, you will have immediate access to your account(s).
By placing a Travel Notification, this will help us be aware if we see foreign transactions on your account. Also, please be informed that for your protection we will continue to monitor your card activity even when a notification is set. We also recommend carrying more than one method of payment while traveling, just in case you encounter any acceptance issues.
Additionally, if you need to call us while you're outside the United States you may do so by dialing 856-751-9000 or collect with operator's assistance from a land line phone by asking the operator to dial 215-569-0518.
