I am in New Jersey and would like to send a check to my brother that lives in Canada. Is he able to cash a check from the U.S. written against my TD checking account without any issues. Do I just put the dollar amount and USD after the dollars amount in the box where you Liz the amount on your check?

Hi Susan, thanks for joining us this morning. We're glad you came to TD Helps with your question.
You can definitely send your brother a check from your TD Bank account in the Unites States. In regards to his ability to cash or deposit it, he should check with his financial institution in Canada to confirm how long it may take an international check to clear and if they would allow him the option to cash it. Even if he banks with us at TD Canada Trust, it would still be considered an international check as it is drawn in foreign currency.
To send him the check, you would just write it out as you normally would and when the check is processed at his institution it would then be converted into Canadian currency. Again, he should check with his institution to confirm how long it may take to convert the funds and to clear the check.
Please also know that a wire transfer is another way to send money internationally and could be a great way to send your brother money quickly. A wire is an electronic transfer that should be available in his Canadian bank account no later than 24-48 hours later. There is no waiting time for funds to clear and no international mail time to worry about. You can stop by your nearest TD Bank Store during lobby hours to get more information or initiate a transfer. Find the Store nearest you and their hours here: http://bit.ly/TDStores.
Please know that fees may apply when sending or receiving a wire transfer. Please review our Fee Schedule for more details: http://bit.ly/1cTejgt.
We hope this helps Susan. If you need anything else, you know where to reach us but you can also call our live Customer Service line 24/7 at 888-751-9000.
